Uber is now going to be more useful in Australia, as the company has announced today that it plans to roll out its Scheduled Rides feature to selected areas in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.

As the name suggests, Scheduled Rides will let you book an Uber trip 30 minutes to 30 days in advance. This provides some peace of mind if you want to use Uber to take you to the airport very early in the morning.

All you need to do is select the “Schedule a Ride” option when ordering an Uber X ride, and follow the prompts. You will get notifications 24 hours and 30 minutes before your scheduled ride, and will be notified if surge pricing will be applied. You can also cancel any scheduled rides up to five minutes after they dispatch the ride.

Scheduled Rides will be available from tomorrow in the selected areas below:

  • Brisbane: Merthyr, New Farm, Newstead and Teneriffe
  • Melbourne: CBD and inner suburbs
  • Perth: CBD, inner suburbs, and Freemantle
  • Sydney: Eastern Suburbs and Inner West

The feature only applies to Uber X, with plans to roll this out to other Uber services on a later date.
