The first ever Wollongong based Hack-A-Thon, called HackAGong started today at the University of Wollongong. The Hack-A-Thon allows teams of people to design, develop and launch an application in just 30 hours. Each team will be judged on the execution, innovation and design of the application at a free presentation open to the public on Sunday, 25th November at the University of Wollongong UniBar.
The concept of a Hack-A-Thon in Wollongong was created by Nathan Waters, a member of the Wollongong eClub. Waters told local newspaper Illawarra Mercury that this could be the biggest Hack-A-Thon in Australia with 46 interested parties. Waters also sees HackAGong being a great foundation stone to bring together Wollongong’s start-up community.
Many prizes are up for grabs to reward teams with exceptional applications. First prize is $2,500 plus desks at start up community, Fishburners, based in the Sydney CBD. A number of different category based prizes are up for grabs including “Most Viable Business Potential”, “Best Use of NSW Government Data” and more.
