Microsoft Australia formally launched their new operating system, Windows 8 at an event this morning at Fox Studios. Officially launching in New York last night, Australia was one of the first countries to experience Windows 8 with a select number of Harvey Norman stores having midnight launches.
While most tech enthusiasts and developers like ourselves have been running Windows 8 for a few months, Windows 8 is now available to purchase from a retail outlet. Windows 8 is priced at $69.99 for the full Pro version or you can purchase the digital upgrade version for $39.99 from the Microsoft Store. However, Officeworks have the full Pro version available for just $48.72 in store.

Today’s press briefing focused on the new and exciting features of Windows 8 and as well put a spotlight on some great Australian made apps available in the Microsoft Store. Microsoft and Westpac have worked together to make a great Windows 8 app which makes banking a breeze. Other apps included SBS on Demand and the TechAU app. It is unsure what the exact amount of apps will be available at launch, however, we expect many developers to be pushing out new and exciting apps soon.
