Toshiba wants their new Kirabook to compete with the MacBook Pro and Chromebook Pixel

Toshiba’s updating their Kirabook notebooks, just in time for CES 2014. The new model has a Haswell processor, a 9-hour battery life, and will cost $100 USD less, which may change when released in Australia.

Releasing mid-February in the US, the notebook remains very similar to its predecessor, with a high-resolution PixelPure display (2560 x 1440-resolution), 256GB of SSD storage, 8GB of RAM, and a 1.17kg weight. To cool it down, AirFlow II will fan the internals, while a new hinge will allow it to open without moving around. Toshiba was likely too ambitious when announcing the notebook today, defining their laptop as the Windows 8 equivalent to the Apple MacBook Pro and Chromebook Pixel. We’ll have to see about that.

A touchscreen model is also available.

Toshiba Australia is yet to release details about the laptop, but it will start at a $1499 USD price in the US. We’ll update this post if we get details about a local release.
