Telstra to launch Nokia's first Windows Phone smartphone

A few weeks after Optus announced their Lumia plans, Telstra have unveiled their plans on the NextG network. If you don’t know what the Nokia Lumia 800 is, it is the first Nokia phone to be powered by Windows Phone 7. Dubbed to be the “First real Windows Phone”, it features a 3.7-inch AMOLED display with curved bending and a 1.4GHz single-core processor with hardware acceleration and a graphics processor. It will also feature 16GB of internal storage and an 8-megapixel rear camera with a Carl Zeiss optic lens and LED flash.

Consumers will be able to purchase the Nokia Lumia 800 for free upfront ($0) on the $59 Freedom Connect Plan which includes $550 of calls, unlimited SMS and 1.5GB of data. Business customers can purchase the Nokia Lumia 800 for $0 upfront with the $70 business plan which includes unlimited SMS and free voice calls to anything on the same account.

The phone will be available from the 13th of March in Black at any Telstra store. The white version will be available from the 20th of March.

6 March 2012 – Nokia’s first Windows® Phone 7.5 smartphone is coming to the Telstra Mobile Network, Australia’s largest and fastest mobile network, from 13 March.

Andrew Volard, Director, Telstra Mobile said the new Nokia Lumia 800 – powered by the Windows Phone operating system – provides easy access to popular Windows software and apps.

“Lumia 800 is one of the best-looking handsets to launch this year and its simple user interface will make navigation, composing Outlook emails and accessing entertainment on the move incredibly simple.

“Customers will love the multimedia experience of the Nokia Lumia 800 – from interactive gaming with Xbox LIVE® to capturing those special moments using the impressive Carl Zeiss 8 mega-pixel camera.

“It comes packed with social media features, including People Hub, which combines contacts and feeds from Facebook®, LinkedIn and Twitter into one thread,” Mr Volard said.

The Nokia Lumia 800 also comes with Nokia Drive, an intelligent satellite navigation system featuring voice-guided navigation, information on local traffic conditions, speed limits and speed cameras.

Pricing and availability:

The Nokia Lumia 800 will be available from metropolitan Telstra Stores from Tuesday 13 March, with regional Stores and partners receiving stock progressively after this date.

Consumer customers can purchase the Nokia Lumia 800 for $0 upfront on the $59 Freedom® Connect Plan (after using an included MRO Bonus for eligible customers), with $550 worth of included calls and MMS, unlimited SMS and 1.5GB of data, all to standard Australian numbers (excludes use overseas) each month. Min cost over 24 months is $1,416.

Business customers can purchase the Nokia Lumia 800 for $0 upfront on the $70 Business Mobile Advantage Member plan (after using their MRO bonus), with unlimited standard national SMS and free national voice calls in Australia to eligible mobiles on the same account as well as 1GB of data to use in Australia each month that can be shared between eligible mobiles on the same account while in Australia. Min cost over 24 months is $1680.

Nokia Lumia 800 is available in black (from launch) and in white (from Tuesday 20 March).
