Telstra and Optus have both announced plans to bring the 4G version of the Samsung Galaxy S III to Australia. Whilst this will be one of a few phones on Telstra, the Galaxy S III 4G will be the first phone to be offered on Optus – which has also been switched on today in Sydney, Perth and Newcastle.
For those who need a refresher on its specs: it has a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display, an 8-megapixel rear camera, 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera, and a dual core processor (unlike the quad-core Exynos processor on the non-4G version). Telstra has confirmed that this model will be running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, so possibly we’re expecting an upgrade soon for Galaxy S III owners. The 4G model will come in Titanium Gray, or Onyx Black – so no blue and white models.
Optus will sell the 4G Galaxy S III first, with $0 upfront on its $80 plans (both consumer and business). You get $850 of ‘included value’ (standard text messages, voice calls); and 2GB of included data with unlimited access to Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, LinkedIn and eBay.
Telstra has said that they will be releasing it in October, and have not announced pricing – they said they will do so once it is closer to launch.
