Sony has a new Walkman MP3 player, and it’s called the Walkman ZX2. Running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, the player is focused on providing ‘audiophiles’ with a premium portable music experience. And the price tag doesn’t take away from that claim, with an insane US$1,000 retail price being applied to the base model. Though considering the current price for an iPod classic on eBay, that might not be too terrible.
With 128GB of inbuilt storage, expandable via micro SD card, the ZX2 is built from a matte black casing, with physical playback buttons carved into the right side of the device. Surrounding the headphone jack is a gold-ring, furthering the idea that this is a premium product built as a solid dedicated music platform.
In terms of format support, the ZX2 will play DSD, WAV, AIFF, FLAC, Apple Lossless, as well as ‘other formats’. Beyond that it includes support for Bluetooth playback, NFC for quick pairing with speakers, and because of the Android OS even support for your favourite music apps, like Spotify or Google Play Music.
On top, existing music can be upscaled via Sony’s DSEE HX tech. Can I get a spell-check on that?
Thanks.
With that said, you might have to get saving if you’re seriously considering the Walkman ZX2. Or you know, you could just buy a 128GB microSD card for your phone for $100+ and save the extra $900 for later.
