Sony Mobile has announced two new phones that will join the Xperia S announced back in CES last January. Called the Xperia P and the Xperia U, the two phones – which look like the Xperia S, but with different size screens – will be available in the second quarter of this year.

Both the Xperia P and Xperia U boast the Mobile BRAVIA engine. The Xperia P, however, has a 4-inch qHD display; while the Xperia U has a 3.5-inch display. The Xperia P also features something call WhiteMagic technology, which allows for an ultra-bright and power efficiency

Hardware-wise, both will have a 1GHz dual-core processor. The Xperia P also has 16GB flash storage, while the Xperia U has 8GB flash storage. The Xpera P also features an 8-megapixel camera with HD and 3D capabilities, NFC technology and HDMI/DLNA connectivity. The Xperia U, however, has a 5-megapixel camera.

But these phones will not be featuring Ice Cream Sandwich. These phones will run Gingerbread, but will be upgradable to Ice Cream Sandwich during Q2 next year.

Sony Mobile Communications introduces Xperia P and Xperia U – smartphones for connected entertainment experiences

26 February, Mobile World Congress, Barcelona – Sony Mobile Communications today unveiled the latest additions to its Xperia™ NXT series – next generation smartphones from Sony, the new Xperia P and Xperia U. In addition, Xperia S, the ultimate HD smartphone, is now shipping to markets across the globe, with first sales in the Sony Style store in Barcelona during Mobile World Congress.  Xperia P and Xperia U will be available to consumers globally in the second quarter of this year.

The new SmartDock, exclusively for Xperia P, offers simple connectivity to multiple screens, turning the smartphone into an entertainment hub for the living room.  Using a TV remote control consumers can easily navigate their smartphone’s media content to watch their HD videos, the latest movies or favourite TV shows on the big screen.  With USB support in the SmartDock, they can also use a wireless keyboard and mouse to write emails, browse and post on Facebook or watch videos from YouTube on their TV.
