Seagate brings out external hard drive performance kit

CES 2010 BlockWant to taste the speed of USB 3.0? Well, Seagate has got you covered with its new “performance kit” for its BlackAmor PS110 USB 3.0 external hard drive. The kit includes a PC express card, power cable and the external hard drive itself – a 500GB 7200RPM 2.5-inch drive. The PC express card houses the USB 3.0 port, so those who aren’t lucky to have it are able to use the external.

For those not in the know, the USB 3.0 standard promises to have, in theory, data transfer speeds of 4.8Gbps – or ten times the speed of USB 2.0. In practise, this performs 3 times faster than USB 2.0, which is still better than most.

It can be purchased immediately from Seagate’s website with a RRP of US$179.99.
