Samsung is looking to be a bit more like Apple with the Android OS with its new product joining its lineup of Android tablets and Android mobile phones – yes, it is an Android ‘iPod touch’-esque device that runs the full OS with slight modifications that make it pretty useless to call someone.
Called the Galaxy Player, the device runs on Android 2.2 Froyo and comes with a 4-inch screen with a front-facing camera and a 1GHz processor. It even has a video calling service that works on Wi-Fi only, similar to Apple’s FaceTime. On the back, it features a 3.2-megapixel camera.
It will come in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB storage capacities, and allow you to purchase and use applications from the Android Market. Samsung is also expected to make more announcements about other Android-powered MP3 players and media devices next month.
Samsung will bring this out to be showcased at CES 2011 in Las Vegas, and will be sold in January – though international availability is a bit scarce.
