Digitimes is reporting that a Taiwanese manufacturer has told them that the PlayStation 4 will be released in 2012. The source is also saying that the next Sony console will have “body movement-based control like Kinect”.
The report says that manufacturing will be done by Pegatron Technology, the company behind the PlayStation 3’s manufacturing, as well as Foxconn, famous for their poor working conditions. A minimum of 20 million units is planned to be produced and shipped in 2012.
While Sony’s well-known ten-year plan for the PlayStation 3 is only up to it’s fifth year, it wouldn’t be the first time Sony has forgotten a promise. And with the Vita coming in 2012 it seems unlikely Sony would crowd the market with two Sony consoles in one year (PlayStation Vita is also coming in late 2011/early 2012).
