Razer has announced that it has refreshed its Razer Blade laptop line. While both the 14-inch Blade and 17-inch Blade Pro now feature an NVIDIA Maxwell GPU and the latest-generation Intel Core i7 processor, the Blade also gets a stunning 3200×1800 resolution IPS display with multitouch support.
Other specs for the 14-inch Blade include the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M graphics card with 3GB of GGDR5 memory, 8GB of DDR3L RAM, a 128GB SSD drive (which can be upgraded to a 256GB or 512GB drive), and support for 802.11ac.
The Razer Pro, however, gets a lower resolution display compared to the Blade and a slightly lower RAM for the video card. It has a 17-inch full HD LED display. Other hardware specs include a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M graphics card with 2GB of GDDR5 memory, 16GB of DDR3L RAM, a 128GB SSD drive (again, can be upgraded to a 256GB or 512GB drive), and 802.11ac support. It also gets the Razer Switchblade User Interface, which lets users have one-click access to program tools, macros and other functions.
Reading the spec sheets, both are clearly capable in playing video games. However, you get the sense that Razer is targeting two different types of people. The Razer Blade appears to be more orientated towards entertainment purposes, while the Blade Pro is more geared for productivity – especially for multimedia professionals. This is further suggested in its fact sheet for the Blade Pro, when there is a heavy emphasis on what the 17-inch laptop could do with apps like Photoshop, Maya and Premiere Pro.
Either way, both are really, really expensive. The Blade starts at $3,399 while the Blade Pro starts at $3,599. You can preorder the laptop from Razer’s website right now, and Razer says they’ll be shipped to you in early April.
