Optus facing nationwide network issues

Optus facing nationwide network issues

Entry to the new Optus Hornsby store

Australian Telco, Optus are currently facing network wide technical issues on their mobile network. Users are taking their complaints to Facebook and Twitter to vent their frustration. According to the customers, phones are reporting that they’re not registered on the network or have been blocked from the Optus network.

This isn’t only affecting Optus users, both Virgin and Amaysim customers (which use the Optus network) are also reporting issues. According to an Optus representative on their Twitter page, the issue was acknowledged at 2:52PM, however, customers were reporting issues long before that.

As of 3:53PM, Optus advised via their Twitter page that the issue had been resolved and that affected customers should simply restart their phones to rectify the issue. However, a number of customers, including our own Terence Huynh are reporting that this doesn’t resolve the issue. We’ve reached out to Optus for comment, however, haven’t heard a response as yet. The post will be updated once this occurs. For now, below are some examples of the complaints from customers.

UPDATE 5:55PM: We’ve received an official comment from Optus. An Optus spokeperson told TechGeek:

  • Optus is resolving an issue that affected the mobile services of some customers and the majority of customers are now back up and running.
  • We’re really sorry and know this has been frustrating for customers.
