We knew it was coming, and now we know when. The Nokia N9 is coming to Australia in October and will be available on Telstra, Vodafone and Optus.

For Vodafone customers, the Nokia N9 will be offered on its “Vodafone Infinite” plan, while Telstra and Optus have not outlined their plans for the phone. Though, all three have expressed support for the phone – which is excellent news for the Finnish company in order to sufficiently compete with the likes of Android and Windows Phone 7.

It will also be available with no carrier tied in for AU$799 and will be available in retailers such as Big W, Dick Smith, Harvey Norman and JB Hi Fi.

The Nokia N9 features a 3.9-inch AMOLED design with a unibody polymer body that will increase antenna performance and allow for better reception, voice quality and better GPS accuracy. The phone features no physical button and is a unique in that it is all gesture based. Hardware-wise, it will have an 8-megapixel camera with HD video capture and NFC support.

techgeek.com.au recently got a little sneak peak of the phone, and both fellow editor Tom Solari and I liked the phone. You can see the photos of the phone here in our little hands on, or see the (somewhat controversial) video below:

The phone will come in black, blue and pink with 16GB of storage. The black version will also have a 64GB capacity model.
