Nokia Australia has confirmed when the Lumia 925 – its “new take” on the flagship Lumia 920 – is coming to Australia. The device will launch first in retail stores from July 17, before coming to Optus and Telstra by the end of the month.

The Lumia 925 looks very similar to the Lumia 920, with a brand new body that combines a polycarbonate shell with a metallic border. It is also thinner and lighter – being 8.5mm thin and 139g. It has a new 4.5-inch AMOLED display, a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor and 1GB of RAM.

The biggest change, however, is with the camera. While it is still an 8.7-megapixel camera at the back with optical image stablisation, it has six physical Carl Zeiss lenses – with Nokia touting that this improves low-light photography and captures excellent photos in any scenario. Nokia Australia has used Daniel Boud, a local photographer, to take photos using the Lumia 925 to showcase the power of the camera – which you can find here.

It also has its new Smart Camera app, taking 10 shots in quick succession so you can change people’s faces, remove objects or combine them for an ‘Action Shot’ (this is also available on all Lumia phones).

Telstra will have the device from July 30; while Optus will launch the device on its network on August 1, but will accept preorders from July 22. At retail, you can find it at any Dick Smith, Allphones, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Fone Zone or Leading Edge store for $699.
