The rumours are true – Nokia is indeed making the Lumia 1520. And yes, it is technically a tablet (it is more a phablet). Running on Windows Phone 8, the Lumia 1520 includes a 6-inch 1080p display and a 20-megapixel PureView camera with optical image stablisation technology.

Other hardware specs include a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage with a microSD card slot, and a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera. It also has 4G connectivity, NFC and Bluetooth 4.0 with LE. Unlike the Nokia 1020, the Lumia 1520 will include built-in wireless charging via the Qi standard.

In order to fill up the screen, Nokia has worked with Microsoft to add another column instead of making the icons bigger. It will also come with its own Nokia Camera app – which combines both the Smart and Pro cameras into one app; and a new Storyteller app, designed to be a new way to curate photos and videos as a story on a map.

The Lumia 1520 will start shipping in Q4 this year with a price tag of US$749 in Hong Kong, Singapore, the US, China and many European markets. Nokia Australia has aid that it is too early to share any details about Australian availability – but it probably is. The better question is when and how much?
