Nokia is going back into the cheap smartphones, with today’s announcement of the Nokia 105. The device is targeting those who are looking for their first mobile phone, or for others who want a second phone for emergencies. For those in the latter category, the price tag might attract you to buy one – because it is only 15EUR (or $20 AUD).
Yes, $20.
The phone doesn’t do anything else except give you the bare essentials – phone calling and SMS. It does have an FM radio and a flashlight – yes a flashlight (finally, I was wondering when that would return). Nokia says that it is dustproof, splashproof and has a battery life of up to a month. It will come with preloaded games and the Nokia Life service.
Like I said, it’s a bare essentials phone – it doesn’t have any of the smartphone features, nor will you be able to play music. There is no expandable memory – the only memory you get is an 8MB ROM – and the screen is pretty much harking back to the late 1990s and early 2000s.
But if you’re looking for your first smartphone, or need one in an emergency, the price does look attractive.
