It is the world’s most popular podcast, but are we comfortable of not knowing the mysteries of Welcome to Night Vale – not just the plot, but the visual depictions of the main characters and the entire world? That’s a question posed by one of my favourite YouTube channels, PBS Idea Channel.
Host Mike Rugnetta explores the idea that what makes us uncomfortable is not the unknown and strange mysteries in Night Vale; but it is the lack of visual confirmation – or “pics or it didn’t happen” – of the main characters, which puts it at odds with the modern fandom with the fan art and cosplaying.
