Nexus 7 - Google's Kindle Fire - coming to Australia; pricing starts $249

At its Google I/O keynote earlier today, Google announced the long-rumoured Nexus 7 tablet. Featuring a 7-inch True HD IPS display, a “scratch-resistant” Corning Glass, 1.2-megapixel camera and NFC – it was pretty much created to take advantage of the new things coming to Google Play, including magazine and movie purchases.

The Nexus 7 will be in either 8GB or 16GB, and feature a quad-core Tegra 3 processor. It will also feature a 12-core GPU, accelerometer and gyroscope to take advantage of Android games and has a battery life of up to 8 hours. It will also run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

The company is selling the device in the United States, Canada, the UK and Australia – I know, Australia. Pre-orders start now, and ship in mid-July. The 8GB version will sell for $249 and the 16GB version for $299 – making it cheaper than the iPad and its nearest Android tablet rivals.

For a limited time, you will also get a copy of Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon, and $25 of credit to spend on the Play Store.
