Hate when evangelicals push their religious views on you, or setting the damn agenda on an issue – looking at you, Australian Christian Lobby with your views on internet filtering? Well, get ready to have a God-free internet with a new filtering package called Godblock.
And it does what it does, it filters religious content. And like all other filters, it is just doing it for the children – protecting them from the “often violent, sexual, and psychologically harmful material in many holy texts, and from being indoctrinated into any religion before they are of the age to make such decisions.”
According to its website, the product: “When installed properly, GodBlock will test each page that your child visits before it is loaded, looking for passages from holy texts, names of religious figures, and other signs of religious propaganda.”
Huh? Why the hell would you want a filter for God? Well, as justification for their cause:
In the last century, the United States has seen a resurgence of fundamentalist religion. Fundamentalist Evangelicals, Mormons, Baptists, Muslims, and Jews have held back progress in science, human rights, civil rights, and protecting our environment. How can we reverse this trend and join the rest of the world in the gradual secularization of society and government?
Most deeply religious people are born into their religion, but even children raised in a secular household are vulnerable to content on the web. That’s why we’ve produced GodBlock. GodBlock is a web filter that blocks religious content. It is targeted at parents and schools who wish to protect their kids from the often violent, sexual, and psychologically harmful material in many holy texts, and from being indoctrinated into any religion before they are of the age to make such decisions.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I am still against any type of filtering, but it seems to be fun to install on a Catholic school’s network. I’m also highly doubtful that this is even a real product as you can’t even download it. But going through the comments, I don’t think people get the joke, like this one posted in the testimonials:
YOU ARE ALL MORONS… WHY WOULD ANY PARENT WANT TO KEEP THERE CHILD FROM KNOWING OUR LORD AN FATHER JESUS CHRIST? THAT IS JUST BEYOND MY COMPRENSION. I BELIEVE THAT A CHILD SHOULD BE FREE TO MAKE HIS/HER OWN DECISION AN NOT BE TOLD WHAT THEY CAN BELIEVE IN. SO IF YOUR CHILD CHOOSES TO BELIEVE IN THE TOOTH FAIRY OR SANTA, THATS FINE WITH YOU. BUT IF YOU FIND EVERYTHING WRONG WITH YOUR CHILD BELIEVING IN SOMEONE WHO REALLY DOES EXIST. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE???!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know what, can we get this as our internet filter? Let’s see how the Christian Lobby like filtering God.
I would like to point out that I’m not an atheist, I do believe in a religion. Don’t fret.
