Yes, this is about to be a real thing. A brand new startup from Townsville, Queensland called “Friends for Hire” is about to open its doors – and as its name suggests, it will let those who are friendless hire a friend for “endless possibilities”.
Well, except for one. According to Business Insider Australia, Friends for Hire is strictly for platonic relationships.
“It’s definitely not a dating website. It’s for people who are lonely, without the expectation that things will move beyond a platonic friendship,” co-founder and managing partner of the Wildside Group – the people behind Friends for Hire – Josh Blundell told Business Insider.
“If anyone was found to be outside the terms of service, we would remove them from the site.”
People can sign up either as a “member” or a “friend”. Friends is those who are selling their services and could charge up to $60 per hour. Members, on the other hand, are those who pay for the friend’s services and a $5 weekly membership fee.
After that, you can do whatever you want with the friend (except for the no physical contact rule). You can play video games, attend functions, have him tutor you in a subject, and to – as the website states – meet friends.
The site opens its doors on March 22, and users can sign up on their website.
