Motorstorm RC announced for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita

No, we’re not joking. Sony has just announced Motorstorm RC for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita downloadable via PSN, a game that will replace the real cars from regular Motorstorm games with virtual remote control cars. Is the release also April 1? Trailer after the break.

The big part of the news is that it is truly multi-platform, meaning that if you buy it for PS3 you’ll also get it for PlayStation Vita, similar to what Apple has on the App Store with iPad and iPhone Universal apps. You can also exchange save games, but the process of doing so has not been detailed. Hopefully the PlayStation Plus exclusive feature that syncs PS3 saves with PSN is what’s powering it and that it comes to regular users.

As well as this there are 4 locations, 16 new tracks, Buggies, Superminis, Rally Cars, Muscle Cars, Racing Trucks, Supercars, Big Rigs and Monster Trucks. Also you can compete in 4 player split screen on PS3 or local and online multiplayer on both consoles.

While the game is a little hard to take seriously, the concept of buying once and playing on multiple devices is interesting, especially on a games console where it has never succeeded before. Motorstorm RC will be available in the US in Spring but an Australian or European date hasn’t been announced.
