Ed Boon, Creative Director of NetherRealm Studios has announced “Mortal Kombat X” to be the 10th installment in the Mortal Kombat franchise. There were several signs leading to this announcement with a leaked promo poster, listings on Amazon, and cryptic tweets from Ed Boon, its great to see what game NetherRealm are working on for the past few years or so.
The trailer features Scorpion and SubZero battling it out in a Snowy Forest environment, with blood, X-rays and of course…a fatality. NetherRealm are taking a more cinematic approach, and are making the gameplay more dynamic, with interactive stages similar to Injustice. Also for the first time, characters will have multiple variations, each having its own unique fighting style and strategy.
Fueled by next-gen technology, Mortal Kombat X combines unparalleled, cinematic presentation with all new gameplay to deliver the most brutal Kombat experience ever.
For the first time ever, Mortal Kombat X gives players the ability to choose from multiple variations of each character impacting both strategy and fighting style.
So Instead of having two fighting styles and a weapon like in Deadly Alliance, it looks like each of these styles could be made into individual characters. e.g. Scorpion having a Rushdown Variant, or a Grappler Variant. NetherRealm are also changing the online scene, making the matches more fluid and making every fight matter.
And with a new fully-connected gameplay experience, players are launched into a persistent online contest where every fight matters in a global battle for supremacy.
The game is set to release sometime in 2015, and will be available on Xbox One, Xbox 360, Playstation 4, Playstation 3 and PC.
