Welcome to the Morning Briefing for the 19th of April 2012, where we highlight the tech stories from across the web that broke while you were sleeping and what we are watching here at techgeek.com.au.
Here’s what we are watching:
- At the Microsoft Management Summit, in Las Vegas, Microsoft have given “Windows Server 8” an official name, “Windows Server 2012” and have confirmed they want to have it shipping later this year. They also showed off System Center 2012, which allows for management of the server and services on it though IE or an application on the server itself.
- The Google TV has received an update, mainly to the ‘TV and Movies’ section of the device. This update will make is ‘smarter’ and ‘easier’ to watch content. This update includes a revamped which provides more information about TV shows you want to watch, as well as what is currently on TV.
- Apple has released Mountain Lion Developer Preview 3 to developlers today. This update touts many minor improvements/bug fixes to improve you experience in Mountain Lion. Apart from this, not much has been said though Apple have listed bugs they already know exist with DP 3.
- Google Cloud Print has received an update, which brings Android integration. This is a long awaited update, as now what had to be done by unofficial apps, can now be done by Google. I have been using Google Cloud Print for a while and I must say, is it pretty good. Now that I can print from my phone, even better. We will bring you more on this later.
- Today must be a day for updating things. Draw Something has received an update, after being purchased by Zynga. This update includes an undo feature, pull to refresh, and finally notifications for Android users.
- And finally, within the space of 24 hours, Microsoft have lost two employees. Karen X Cheng, who was working on Office 15, has quit with aid of a music video. The other, Gavin Kim, who was the Windows Phone Marketing Chief, has left for personal reasons.
