Here’s what we are watching:
- Big news from Nokia with its Q1 earnings falling flat. Despite $9 billion in sales, its still down from the start of last year. Losses are also attributed to the restructures it had, and shedding employees. It hoped to break even – and we have an article up already, and have more analysis during the morning.
- Meanwhile, sales chief for Nokia Colin Giles has resigned – despite the fact he’s been in the leadership team for less than a year (though, he has been with the company since 1992).
- Intel has launched its first smartphone and it’s launching in India. Called the XOLO X900, the device runs on Android Gingerbread on an Intel Atom Z2460 1.6GHz processor. However, it has a big coup in that it will be sold through a big retail chain.
- Facebook might launch an IPO on May 17, according to TechCrunch’s (and Tom’s favourite blogger) Alexia Tsotsis. Facebook will be valued at $100 billion, but again it could be less. Don’t forget, this could even be pushed back further because, you know, Europe’s in crisis (again) with Spain.
- ABC has updated its Android application and now you can watch ABC News 24 live, listen to 28 ABC radio stations, share stories on social media and now you can save the app onto an SD card. Don’t forget – stream on Wi-Fi unless it’s a dire emergency that requires you to stream on 3G.
- NBN time – and TechAU’s Jason Cartwright has a post about the trucks going around the country explaining the NBN and its features (unlike the ever helpful Malcolm Turnbull) – such as in medical treatments and being taught a specific course, such as Japanese in North-East Tasmania.
