Welcome to the Morning Briefing for 17 April 2012, where we highlight the tech stories from across the web that broke while you were sleeping and what we are watching here at techgeek.com.au.
Here’s what we are watching:
- Google Drive is said to be coming out next week, according to The Next Web. And like rumours before, it will have apps for Mac, Windows, Android and iOS; with each user getting 5GB for free. But then again, rumours have claimed this before and have been wrong. So, we’ll wait and see.
- Mac trojans are the new thing – two more have been found and are variants of a similar trojan known as SabPub. It isn’t much of a threat, according to some security analysts talking to PC World, since the domain to fetch instructions has been shut down.
- Bloomberg has sparked speculation of a RIM being sold with a report that it is in talks with a financial adviser to “help it weigh strategic options”. Citing anonymous sources, the report doesn’t actually say that it’s on sale – focusing more on its openness by hiring external people, but that didn’t stop GeekWire arguing that MICROSOFT SHOULD NOT BUY IT!
- Speaking of Microsoft, Skype could come to the browser. Job listings are saying that they are looking for developers “to help us bring Skype… on to the Web”. You need to know HTML5 interfaces based on JavaScript, and a history of web client application development. Though, having Skype on a browser? That’s good.
- And in some developer news, a Microsoft blog has finally shown off how to design live tiles for their Windows 8 app.
