Welcome to the Morning Briefing for the 7th of May, where we highlight the tech stories from across the web that broke while you were sleeping and what we are watching here at techgeek.com.au.
Here’s what we are watching:
- A Brazilian fashion retailer has created a new initiative called Fashion Like. By connecting with the companies Facebook page, this new coat-hanger being used in-store allows people to see the real-time online reaction for each product of the store. Basically, you go to their page, you press Like on products that you like and then people browsing in-store can see which products other people like. In other news, like this post?
- Security researcher David Emry is warning users of OS X’s FileVault encryption software that a new update that came with Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 is logging user passwords in a plain-text debug file. FileVault 2 is unaffected, and changing your passwords is useless right now until Apple fixes the bug.
- Facebook Messenger on iOS and Android has been updated to 1.7, with this new version adding read-receipts. The new feature will help you know whether or not your friend has ignored your message or just hasn’t read it yet. It’s looking like Facebook really wants to compete with iMessages and similar applications, but whether or not people will complain about this addition too, as people always do with any changes to Facebook, is yet to be seen.
