Look familiar to you? Yeah, me too… Meet the Xiaomi Mi Pad. It’s a 7.9-inch plastic colourful tablet which very much resembles the iPad Mini. The Mi Pad is the first to feature NVIDIA’s Tegra K1 processor which was announced in January at CES. It also features 2GB of RAM, 16/32GB of storage with the option of expanding up to 128GB with a MicroSD card and runs Android 4.4.2 Kitkat. It’s also running a heavily customised skin which resembles iOS 7. Xiaomi also boasts a 2048 × 1536 resolution (or 326 ppi) which matches that of the iPad Mini Retina.
It’s not only just the product itself looking like an Apple device, if you take a look at their website, it’s also very familiar. The Mi Pad will be available in June at 1499 yuan (or $256 AUD) for the 16GB version and 1699 yuan (or $290 AUD) for the 32GB version. Initially being made available China. It’s unknown whether or not the tablet will make it outside of China, however, if it does, I’m pretty damn tempted to get one. The manufacturer will be releasing the tablet as a “beta model” to allow users to try a pre-production model.
