So yeah, remember five years ago when USB flash drives were just approaching 1GB? Those were the days. Now, Kingston is upping the game with the announcement that it will make a 512GB and 1TB USB flash drive. Called the DataTraveller HyperX Predator 3.0, the USB drives take full advantage of the new USB 3.0 fast data read/write speeds.
Thanks to USB 3.0, the Predator’s read speed is 240MB/s while write speeds are 160MB/s. Of course, this one is also backwards compatible with USB 2.0 – only with 30MB/s read and write speeds. And it is pretty much compatible with all the major operating systems, from Windows XP SP3 and above, Mac OS X version 10.6.x+ and Linux version 2.6.x+.
The drive’s casing is made from zinc alloy, giving some resilience when you accidentally drop it on the concrete ground.
The 512GB USB flash drive is currently available on Kingston’s website for US$1,337, with the 1TB version is coming later in Q1. We expect it to be around $2,000 or more. Full press release below.
