Despite concerns from Tim Cook over holiday availability, a batch of the new Retina display-equipped iPad mini’s are now available from the Apple Store.
Coming in Space Grey and Silver, the iPad mini with Retina display starts at AU$479 for the 16GB Wi-Fi model, AU$598 for the 32GB Wi-Fi model, while the most expensive iPad mini, with 128GB of storage and Wi-Fi + Cellular, comes in at AU$949. Currently the 16GB and 32GB will ship in 1-3 days, while other models will take 5-10 business days, although this will likely change quickly if demand arrives.
Severe supply constraints, likely caused by the new 2048 x 1536 display, mean the new Retina mini could go quickly. If you want one in time for Christmas, you’d better have your credit card handy. Apple CEO Tim Cook even admitted in an earnings call that “it’s not clear that everyone who wants [an iPad mini] will be able to find one.”
While Apple hasn’t fired off the press release, the new iPad mini should be launching initially in Australia, the US, Canada, Mexico, the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, China, and Japan. Let us know in the comments if you’re adding it to your wish-list.
