Huawei announces another large phablet with the Ascend Mate2 4G

Last year, Huawei announced one of its largest phones – or phablets – with the Ascend Mate. Now, at this year’s CES, the Chinese smartphone maker has announced its successor. Dubbed the Ascend Mate2 4G, the smartphone still has the same 6.1-inch IPS display and big battery, but adds a better processor and uses power more efficiently (according to them).

Internal specs include a quad-core 1.6Ghz processor, 16GB of internal storage with microSD card slot, 2GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel BSI rear camera, and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. But the biggest feature of the phone is its 4G support – the Ascend Mate2 4G supports LTE Cat4 speeds, allowing you to send and download files in 150Mbps.

Software-wise, the phone is skinned with its Emotion UI skin. Additional extras include multitasking with “floating windows”, auto face enhancement, panorama selfies with the front-facing camera (yes, I am not kidding), and a Simple UI mode for easy customisation. Emotion UI also includes a Gloves Mode, so you can use the phone while wearing gloves; and Driving Mode, enabling voice activation when on the road.

No word on Australian availability as of yet, but we’ll get in touch with Huawei Australia.
