Facebook Home is not a phone, but it’s not an OS. It’s a brand new app launcher running Android. However, that hasn’t stopped Facebook producing a phone – with the help of HTC. The companies have announced the HTC First – a new smartphone designed to run Facebook Home.
From what we can gather from what little information that has been released – the phone features a 4.3-inch screen, a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, a 5-megpixel rear camera, LTE support and runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
The HTC First is part of a new line of phones that will feature Home. Also confirmed to partnering with Facebook to create devices include Sony, Samsung, Huawei, ZTE and Lenovo. Facebook has said their phones will have to comply with guidelines under its “Facebook Home Program”.
It will come out in America on April 12 on AT&T for $100. There will be a UK launch with EE and a French launch with France Telecom, but no word on other international availability such as Australia.
