Grand Theft Auto V is not getting banned, gets R18+ rating

Despite fears of it being banned after Saints Row IV, gamers can now breathe a sigh of relief. Grand Theft Auto V has been classified R18+ in Australia – basically meaning that it won’t be edited to fit in with Australia’s classification laws.

According to the Classification Board’s decision, the game got the R18+ decision because of the “high impact” of the drug use – a reason why Saints Row IV was banned. Under R18+ rules, you cannot depict drug-taking as a reward or incentive, and it is within context of the game (so, pretty much, as expected with the franchise then).

The full brief outline of the Board’s decision can be found below. The game comes out on September 17.
