While we’ve heard about GTA 3 for mobile before, Rockstar Games has now given out a release date for the mobile version of the 10 year old game. Not only was the game revolutionary when it was released but it changed the sandbox genre and what people thought of open-world video games. Not only could you now see everything on new PC and PS2/Xbox graphics, but you could do anything you wanted to do in 3D (not the current definition of it, mind you). The possibilities were endless.
And now we’re so spoilt with amazing mobile hardware that Rockstar Games has ported the full game to some iOS and Android phones and tablets.
From December 15, or December 16 for Australians (we presume), Grand Theft Auto III: 10 Year Anniversary Edition will be available on the iPad 1 & 2, iPhone 4 & 4S and iPod touch 4th Generation for AU$5.49. It’s Universal too, so you can buy once and play it on any iOS device that’s compatible. It will also work with the HTC Rezound, LG Optimus 2x, Motorola Atrix 4G, Motorola Droid X2, Motorola Photon 4G, Samsung Galaxy R, and T-Mobile G2x. If Android tablets are your thing you’ll be able to find it on the Acer Iconia, Asus Eee Pad Transformer, Dell Streak 7, LG Optimus Pad, Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1, Sony Tablet S and Toshiba Thrive. Obviously more Android phone support will come.
It’s crazy to think of playing full console games on mobile devices but it looks like the future of gaming on the go is bright. On the Apple side the game will be AU$5.49 and on Android it will cost US$4.99. Let’s hope the onscreen controls aren’t too bad.
