Google Docs offline document editing available today

At their packed Google I/O 2012 Day Two keynote, Google has finally announced offline Google Drive document editing. When you disconnect from the internet you will now, finally, be able to continue to make changes to your files that have synced.

When you reconnect, changed will seamlessly, or should at least, sync up. It’s unclear how this will work if the original document changes before you open it again, however we should be able to see that when it rolls-out soon.

Does the long-awaited feature finally allow Google Drive to compete with Microsoft Office? Probably not. But it still makes the Google Apps package a very, very interesting and potentially difficult service to match, depending on the requirements of the company.
