E3 2016: Microsoft goes big with Gears of War 4

Kickstarting Microsoft’s Xbox E3 Briefing, Rod Ferguson from The Coalition announced new information about one of their upcoming game, Gears of War 4. The game will feature a new gamemode called Horde 3.0, an update version of their horde mode from previous games, and new multiplayer options. Gears of War 4 will be one of Microsoft’s new initiative: Xbox Plays Anywhere – allowing gamers to cross-play between their Xbox One and Windows 10 PC. This allows gamers to play and team up with anyone with Gears of War 4 on Xbox One or PC in all co-operative gamemodes.

During the briefing, we got to see a glimpse of the campaign – where Kait, one of the protagonist, is on a mission to rescue her mother from the new alien threat, the Swarm. Without giving too much away, we got to see a few new weapons, such as a disk cutter, similar to the Plasma Cutter in Dead Space, and some siege weapons; and got a sense of the post-apocalyptic world which the game is set in.

Closing their demo, Microsoft announced an exclusive Gears of War 4 themed Xbox One Wireless Controller, featuring “laser-etch claw marks, gritty, battle-weathered design; and a custom D-pad.”

Gears of War 4 will be available October 11, 2016 for Xbox One and Windows 10; whereas the Limited Edition Controller is available for pre-order.
