Google blocks Maps on Windows Phone

The popular Google Maps has been blocked on Windows Phone as the Microsoft vs Google battle continues. When trying to access http://maps.google.com on any Windows Phone device, it simply redirects to http://google.com. Check out the video at the bottom of this post.

This is a specific targeted attack on Microsoft users as Google just released the fantastic Google Maps iOS app, however Google have released a statement saying (via Gizmodo):

The mobile web version of Google Maps is optimized for WebKit browsers such as Chrome and Safari. However, since Internet Explorer is not a WebKit browser, Windows Phone devices are not able to access Google Maps for the mobile web.

It is known that Google Maps works perfectly on Windows Phone devices and the statement Google have released is completely false. It’s an unfortunate decision that Google has made as they are blocking users from their service. Nokia users won’t be affected by this as they can use the Nokia Maps service but other users will be affected by this.

Don’t be evil…..
