CES gold: Michael Bay's autocue fails, he walks off stage at Samsung keynote

ku-xlarge Don’t be surprised if this is cut from Samsung’s CES Keynote replay… Michael Bay, director of Transformers and other action-blockbusters, was just on stage at Samsung’s CES 2014 keynote. And then he freaked out and left. There to promote the new curved UHD TV from Samsung, Bay obviously had issues reading an autocue, which was feeding him dialogue. Rather than “winging” it like he had hoped, Bay instead spiked the mic and walked off stage. Awkward silence ensued. Video and transcript below.

JOE STINZIANO, Executive VP of Samsung Electronics America: Ladies and gentlemen, director and producer Michael Bay MICHAEL BAY: How is everyone today? My job, as a director, is that I get to dream for a living. S: Michael, you know, you’re known for such unbelievable action. What inspires you? How do you come up with these unbelievable ideas? B: Um, I create visual worlds that are so beyond everyone’s normal life experiences, and Hollywood is the place that creates, uh, viewer escape. And, um, what I try to do as a director, I try to … ergh. The type is all off. Sorry, but I’ll just wing this. S: Tell us what you think. B: Yeah, we’ll just wing it right now. I try to take people on an emotional ride and, um. [long pause] S: The curve?… How do you think it going to impact how viewers experience your movies. B: Excuse me, I’m sorry. I’m sorry. [leaves stage] S: Okay. Ladies and gentlemen, let’s thank Michael Bay for joining us.
