Those waiting for some local information about the new Nexus 7 will be pleased to know that details are now slowly emerging. A Perth-based computer reseller named PLE Computers has started offering pre-orders for the Nexus 7 (2013), and has hinted that the product will launch later in the month.

The local relevant pricing goes as follows:

Model PLE US Google Play Play in AU$
16GB Wi-Fi $299.00 US$229.00 $254.98
32GB Wi-Fi $339.00 US$269.00 $299.52
32GB Wi-Fi + LTE $439.00 US$349.00 $338.60

I should note that the converted Play Store prices are current based on the exchange rates at the time of writing, but it does give us a rough estimate of what the difference in pricing. And yes, we’re going to be paying a bit more – the Australian dollar isn’t what it was back then last year.

Compared to the US Play Store prices, Australians will pay around $50-$55 more than the US for the base model. Factoring in the delivery costs to get it to Australia by ASUS, the extra cost is somewhat stomachable (well, compared to the massive markups we’ve witnessed in the past). However, if you want 4G data – then get ready to spend $100 extra.

My advice: if you can a good price by simply importing it from the US right now – take that option.
