Argonus and the Gods of Stone releases next month

Back in May this year, independent developer Zojoi announced their next game called Argonus and the Gods of Stone. The developer known for Shadowgate, the cult classic adventure game, will be releasing their all-new adventure game next month.

Argonus and the Gods of Stone

Similar to Shadowgate, there will be puzzles to solve but this is not a point-and-click game. You will be able to explore the world of Ancient Greece in first-person to complete your deal with a Goddess. Stop the blight that is killing the people there so you can get safe passage home before the evil stalking the land gets you. Quite simple really, or so it seems.

Of course, it does have an interesting twist. Argonus and the Gods of Stone draws inspiration from the fantasy films of the ’60s and ’70s. See the trailer below for a better idea of what this means for the game. Another unusual point about this game is the fact Zojoi has decided to include an audiobook in the Olympus Edition. What is the audiobook? It’s an immersive walk-through narrated by Betsy Brantley (“Princess Bride” and “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?”). She will take you through the thrilling story created by developer Zojoi and fuelled by mythology.

Argonus and the Gods of Stone puts players in control of Argonus who has awoken on strange shores. As a historian and cartographer, Argo was no stranger to sea travel or rough seas though his latest trip might be his final one. The famed ship of hero Jason and his Argonauts, the Argo. Was pulled into sharp rocks by the song of a Siren where it met a fatal end. Argonus was lucky however, the disaster didn’t kill him but now he is stranded and no one knows where he is. So, he makes a deal with a Goddess to help the people of the land he has landed in by stopping a blight and in exchange, he will get safe passage home. It would be easy enough but there are ancient mysteries in his path and all the “mythology” walking around might kill him prematurely.

The story of Argonus is scheduled to release October 8th on PC. The release to other platforms is a little uncertain right now but news will come in the future if Zojoi plans to release Argonus and the Gods of Stone elsewhere. For now, however, PC gamers can add the game to their Steam wishlist to be notified when the game goes up for sale and if it becomes available to pre-order ahead of release.

On Steam, Argonus and the Gods of Stone will feature 20 achievements to be unlocked across the game. It’s unknown how many will be hidden achievements for players to discover but on a 3D Greek island, there will be lots to explore and do. So do not expect to 100-percent this game quickly.

Fans of developer Zojoi will be happy to learn that the composer for the original score is Rich Douglas. He also worked on Shadowgate previously with Zojoi and on other projects such as “Day of Infamy” and “Strange Things: The Game”. Anyone interested in the concept art can also find it in the digital compendium from Nabetse Zitro which will come in the Olympus Edition of the game.

Dedicated gamers looking for everything that Argonus and the Gods of Stone has to offer will want to grab the special Olympus Edition of the game. It features the game of course along with the audiobook narrated by Betsy Brantley and the digital compendium from Nabetse Zitro.

Argonus and the Gods of Stone will release on October 8th this year for PC via Steam. You can wishlist the game now so that you are notified when it releases next month. Some DLC will also be coming in the future but developer Zojoi is focused on the release of the base game first, but take a glimpse of it here.
