Apple updates MacBook Air lineup - includes Ivy Bridge, up to 512GB of SSD storage

The MacBook Air gets a slight refresh at this year’s WWDC press conference. The new June 2012 refresh sees the Air getting new Ivy Bridge processors from Intel, new USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt ports and faster memory.

The 11-inch and 13-inch models will run the latest Core i5 and Core i7 dual-core processors, and run Intel’s HD Integrated Graphics 4000 – making it 60 percent faster and plenty of power to watch videos and play games. Storage options include now up to 512GB of storage via SSD (solid state drive).

The models now come with 4GB RAM as standard, will also have two USB 3.0 ports on either side plus a Thunderbolt connector. In addition, it features its new MagSafe 2 port (which will mean that your old power adaptor will not work with this one). The camera has now also been upgraded to support 720p HD resolution. Other than those minor changes, it still has the same body.

The base model – the 11 inch with a 1.7GHz Core i5 processor and 64GB of storage – is priced at $1099. The 11-inch 128GB model is priced at $1249; 13-inch 128GB model at $1349 and the 13-inch 256GB model is priced at $1689. These start shipping today.
